With the holidays rapidly approaching, you and your loved ones are likely getting ready for family to visit, to travel, and to feast on tasty seasonal foods. Though this is the most magical time of year for many, it can be a bit tricky for those who are undergoing Invisalign treatment. If you are currently straightening your smile with clear aligners, read on to learn about four tips that will help you make it through the season without getting off track with your treatment.
Tip #1: Wear Your Invisalign
Clear aligners are removable, which is one of the many reasons why people often prefer them over traditional braces. This makes it easier to clean your teeth, but it’s important to put them on once you’re done. Invisalign needs to be worn for 20-22 hours per day to be effective, so forgetting to put it back on after cleaning your smile can slow down or interrupt your treatment.
Tip #2: Take Your Aligners Off When You Eat
Though you need to wear your aligners as often as possible, it’s important to take them off when you eat or drink anything other than plain water. Forgetting to do so may result in staining, which can make your smile look less appealing. Your aligners may also be damaged. Though your orthodontist will likely be able to have them replaced, there will be a lapse in your treatment while you wait for your new set.
Tip #3: Brush and Floss Your Teeth
After every meal, be sure to brush for two minutes and floss between your teeth. When undergoing Invisalign treatment, brushing twice and flossing once daily is no longer enough. Cleaning your teeth after you eat will prevent aligner staining. It will also keep food from getting trapped behind your trays, which can raise your risk of developing cavities.
Tip #4: Keep an Invisalign Case on Hand
When preparing to eat a meal, some people place their Invisalign on a napkin. This isn’t a good idea since you may accidentally throw your trays away or misplace them. Instead, keep an Invisalign case nearby. This will keep your aligners safe during meals as well as prevent you from having treatment delays while you wait for new ones to be made.
Though it can be easy to lose track of your Invisalign treatment during the holidays, it’s important to keep up with your aligners and wear them as often as intended. This will help you continue on your journey to a lovely, healthy, and brag-worthy smile interruption-free!
